SERVICE TO STATE
Civilians’ Voluntary War
Effort PRAISE BY MR. FRASER “An outstanding feature of tlie war effort of civilians in New Zealand is the work that is being done, without payment, by members of various committees and advisory bodies appointed by The Government,” said the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, in a statement last night. “They are giving much of their own time and energy to the tasks allotted to them. “I refer generally to tlie work of all the wartime councils and committees, but I desire particularly to mention the services of the War Council, the Emergency Industrial Council, tlie Primary Producers’ Committees, and the Committee of the Economic Stabilization Conference.’' said Mr. Eraser. “Their work and advisory responsibilities have called for much effort and a continuous exercise of careful thought. Members have already stieriDeed a great deal of time from private interests. They have been willing and content to give their services freely and witli only one purpose—to promote New Zealand s war efloit and the welfare of the people to the utmost of the Dominion’s resources and de termination in helping to win the war. “1 am glad to say. too. that in all the activities of the Government’s advisory councils and committees, politics have not obtruded. All are working for the good of the State it) a time of crisis, and all are agreed that such a task is above party politics. “It should be emphasized also clearly and recorded with appreciation that no payment is given by Hie Government n'.i- such effective services as I have referred 10. beyond Inivelling and liotel expenses lor those \\ lie lixe outside Wellington. No one is exploiting the war el'forl in Xew Zealand.'
