WORKERS TRAPPED
London Air-Raid Tragedy
(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, November 12.
Bombs which struck a printing works in London last night caused one of the most, terrible raid tragedies so far. Firemen fought tlie flames for three hours, since which a military pioneer corps has been working feverishly all day endeavouring to extricate the persons trapped, cutting though steel girders and forcing their way through piles of masonry. Doctors crawled into the smouldering debris to give morphia to the injured.
Outside the ruins resemble a pitmouth after a mining disaster. Friends and relatives have been standing for hours in a bitterly cold wind waiting for news of those who are entombed. Seven bodies have so far been recovered. including the managing director. A number have been taken to hospital. Most of the rescues were apparently made from a special basement shelter. A man, a woman, and a child in a stationary car nearby were killed.
