Incident At Wharf Gates
A man "ho misled a constable <m duty at a wharf gate so that he could get’on tire wharves was lined 11)/- in the Magistrates’ Court, AVellingtoii. yesterday He was AVilliam AlcLeod, and ho pleaded guilty to deceiving Constable S. AV. Rodgers by producing a crew pass and falsely representing Hint bis ship was berthed at the Railway Wharf. Sub-Inspeetor G. H. Lambert said defendant told the constable be was "■oiii" to a certain ship, but Hie constable found later Hint she was not in port. The pass that Im slm.weil the constable should have been smremlerer! before that. Defendant, said that it was a Sunday morning on which he had bad some bad news Hull he wished to discuss with n friend in the slrip- When he was stopped by the constable and questioned lie showed the pass, which was his only means of identifying himself. He was in a confused mental slate nt. the time, but anxious to got aboard the ship. Remarking lliiit defendant had rendered himself liable to a line of £lOO. Iris Worship said ho would let him off with a small line.
