it. was not possible to extend the period for Hie admission of goods under ‘third and fourth ixiriod licences if carried in the ship referred to, states a letter by the Minister of Customs, Mr. Nash, regarding the admission of goods shipped in a vessel listed for dispatch from New York on November 22. The Minister’s letter was addressed to a shipping firm which is a member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and it forwarded a copy of the letter to tlie chamber. This was read at last night’s meeting of the council of the cli am her.
J’lio Minister wrote that, in tlie event of such ship not arriving in New Zealand till after December 31, 1940, tlie goods shipped thereon would be admissible only within tlie importer’s allocation for similar goods for the fifth period. If the importer had no allocation for similar goods for Hie fifth period, he should take steps to ensure either that, the goods were shipped in lime to arrive before 1941 or that tlie slilinnont was not made.
