BOWL TESTING

Commencement Next

Month WELLINGTON CENTRE Having been engaged on work for the Defence-Depart men t, the official bow] tester for the Wellington Bowling Centre, Mr. S. R. Murray, has been unable to test any bowls this season. Last night the secretary, Mr. A. F. Spiller, reported to a meeting of the centre executive that Mr. Murray would oe ready to test bowls in the first, two weeks in December. The position of players whose bowls required stamping was discussed, but it was decided to take no action officially. 'The Seatouu club stated in a letter to the centre that it presumed that players whose bowls needed stamping would be in order in using them tid they could be tested by Mr. Murray. The secretary had replied that the only thing for them to do would be to use the bowls till they could be tested in December. A delegate said a difficulty had been created in his club by a player whose bowls had not been stamped and who could not get them tested having them challenged by an opponent. Mr. S. Ingra.m suggested that if such a difficulty was likely, the player could play with borrowed bowls. Others demurred at the practicability of such a course. It was decided that the centre should not make a ruling.

Mr. J. Stonebanks (Butt club) reported that, because of the war, the club was encountering difficulty in obtaining blazers and hat bands, and -’t had been suggested that p’a.vers should be allowed to play in other blazers. Other delegates remarked that their clubs were having similar difficulty. Mr. W. Gilbert (Karori) said be understood that the position would be eased in about a month. I: was decided that a team representing the centre should visit the Otaki club on November 24, if that date is suitable to the Otaki club. December 15 was decided on as the day for a visit to Paekakariki, and a suggestion that the secretary had made to the Marlborough centre that the visit of a Wellington centre tea.ni to Marlborough should be on February 8 or February 15 was approved. H. L. Brighting, who has won five centre tournaments, is to .be presented with the gold badge which the centre gives for such a feat.
