OBITUARY
Sir Richard Phillimore (British Official Wireless.l RUGBY. November 11. Admiral Sir Richard Phillimore, who commanded H.M.S. Indexible at the Battle of the Falkland Isles and during the bombardment at the Dardanelles, has died at the age of 75. He was one of lite first to qualify as an air pilot, and in 1918 was appointed Admiral Commanding Aircraft. Mr. J. H. Luke The sudden death in Wellington ou Monday last of Mr. James Henry Luke, will cause general regret. Mr. Luke was born and educated in Wellington, and began his business career with the late firm of Brown and Dean, solicitors, Wellington. When the Great War broke out in 1914 he was in England. He returned to New Zealand, and joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and served a long period oon active service. Early in 1918 he was invalided •back to New Zealand, and later was in charge of repatriation in Wellington. For a time Mr. Luke was engaged in. farming in the Waikato district, but because of continued ill-health, he returned to Wellington and eventually joined the head office staff of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Later, for health reasons, he was transferred to the organizing staff, and served in various provincial districts "in that capacity. At. the time of his deatli he was organizing iu the South Hawke’s Bay Province. Mr. Luke was a keen yachtsman, and was a .member of the Masonic fraternity, tlie New Zealand Society of Accountants, the R.S.A., and Hie Wellington Savage Club. He is survived by a wife ail'd a young daughter, also two brothers and two sisters. Mi’. J. Pears Mr. James Peat’s, partner in the Wellington firm of Whilehead ami Pears, died suddenly yesterday morning at the age of 65. He attended work in Ihe morning, and in the afternoon went to Kelburn io .play bowls. Entering into partnership with Mr. A. P. Whitehead in 1908. Mr. Pears was well known in Wellington business circles. He was a member of the Kelburn Bowling Club. He is survived by a willow, one son, Frank, and one daughter, Kathleen. Reference to Ihe deatli of Mr. Pears was made at. a meeting of the executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre last evening, and a motion expressing sympathy wiili bis relatives was carried in silence.
