STATE TIMBER MILL
Dismissals Said To Number Only Five When yesterday's I’ress Association message from Auckland reporting that '5O men employed on a new State timber mill near Rotorua had been dismissed was referred to the State Forest Service, it was elated that the department had been advised that the service of live men only were dispensed with. These men. who were labourers, had been employed on the construction of the mill, and no undertaking was given that they would be engaged in the operation of the mill after construction work had finished. Their services were dispensed with as part of Hie normal reduction of a constructional gang. In addition, four others had left at about the same time to take up employment elsewhere. The supply of logging tractors was stated to be well in baud. Negotiations bad recently been completed with the Public Works Department for the release of such machines as were suitable for logging work ami appropriately equipped.
