"Gone With The Wind" Released In Australia
YfR. P. W. MADDOCK, general manager of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer iu New Zealand, has received advice of the success attending the premiere presentation of “Gone With the Wind” at the St. James Theatre and the Liberty Theatre in Sydney on April 30. Both theatres were the centre of unprecedented public enthusiasm, the opening performance being attended by a distinguished assembly, including a vice-regal party, the Lord Mayor of Sydney, and social, civic, and industrial leaders. The film received the highest acclaim ever bestowed-in Sydney on a motion picture and the audiences broke into spontaneous applause at the end of the first half and at the conclusion of the performance. , Advice of the release in Australia of the film version of Margaret Mitchell’s famous novel will be good news to New Zealand theatre-goers, for it must bring the screenings in this country so much nearer.
