MONDAY’S WRESTLING
Earl McCready, the British Empire professional heavyweight wrestling champion, has won for himself a unique place in the regard of New Zealand followers of the sport, and consequently Wellington enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to next Monday night, when he will meet Joe Corbett, the “Boston Andonis, ’ in the Town Hall. McCready’s, popularity rises from the manner in which he surrounds his exceptional wrestling skill with an air of relentless determination, and from his ability to provide spectacular effects. He has some hard matches ahead of him this year, and his bout with Corbett will give a good indication of how he is likely to fare. Corbett, who is Gft. lin. in height and weighs nearly 17 stone, will not be at any appreciable disadvantage because of McCready’s size; nor will he be slow to meet his opponent’s mat science, for he has been soundly schooled in the sport, and is generally accepted as one of the cleverest men to have come to the forefront in wrestling in the United States in recent years. lie is particularly expert in the use of cradle holds, and he has all the necessary ruggedness to stand up to any amount of punishment. The preliminaries, which will begin at 8 o’clock, will include a “semi-profes-sional” bout.
