GIRL’S FALL OVER BANK

Inquest Adjourned Dominion Special Service, NAPIER, May 8. An inquest was opened at Napier Public Hospital before the district coroner, Mr. J. Miller, S.M., into the death of Shirley Ann Thompson, eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 11. Thompson, of 13.1 Shakespeare Road, Napier. The child died from injuries received when she fell over a 15-foot bank in Shakespeare Rond on Monday afternoon. Sergeant. W. O’Donnell, who appeared for tlie police, said it: had been revealed that the girl was playing with a bow and arrow in company with a boy of similar age, and in tin endeavour to recover an til-row from the cliffside the girl lost her footing and crashed head first into the concrete drain at the base of the bank. After hearing evidence of identification from the father of the child, the coroner adjourned the inquest.
