FOURTH ANNUAL BALL

Wairarapa Solway Old Girls Bowls of autumn-tinted flowers on small green tables arranged in cabaret style round the hall and the colourful dresses of the dancers created a brilliant setting for the fourth annual ball of the Solway Old Girls’ Association (Wairarapa branch) held in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, recently. The general decorative scheme was effectively carried out in silver and green, the college colours. Visitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa. The president,' Mrs. E. Shaw, who wore a gold lirme gown with a flametinted shoulder-spray, was hostess, and was assisted by the joint secretaries, Mrs. A. Southey and Miss A. G. Tregurtha. Six debutantes were presented by Mrs. Shaw to the Mayoress, Mrs. T. Gordon, who wore a gown of black beaded georgette with a scarlet spray. The debutantes were: Misses Mary Lawrence, Carterton, Joau McGregor, Masterton, Nola Bannister, Masterton, M. McClymont, Masterton, Phyllis Brown, Haniua, and Zona Holloway, Nireaha. Mr. lan Shaw was master of ceremonies.

A specially smart imported English coat is of fine woollen corduroy in a lovely warin cedar brown shade. It is a belted model beautifully cut with collar and pocket laps of a very fine quality persian lamb to match. Wilson’s, 52 Willis Street.—Advt.
