Appeal For Volunteers
Sir, —As I listened in lust night to the broadcast of “The Man in the Street” session, about loyalty and devotion, the wonders of New Zealand and the things we lead the world in. it occurred to me that at the moment it would be both fitting and proper if 2ZB introduced a talk in this session on recruiting, the dire necessity for men to enlist and help Britain and her Allies in their hour of need. New Zealand’s response to the recruiting campaign has been very poor and is something that we do not lead the British Empire in, let alone the world. This is very humiliating to those who fought in the Great War (1914-1918), as it must also be to our Prime Minister, who only quite recently stumped the country literally begging for recruits. It is high time that the man in the street realized the seriousness of the position and showed his loyalty and devotion to a cause the result of which depends, the very existence of all nearest and dearest to him. It is also a golden opportunity for 2ZB to help get rid of the enemy within our gates and in no small measure help New Zealand to retain that which we hear so much about—our freedom ami liberty.—l am, etc., QUO VADIS. Wellington, May 6.
