MR. SCHRAMM’S CASE
Address To Electors (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 7Defending his action in moving for the expulsion of Mr. Lee, M.P., from the Labour Party because of his alleged attacks on the late Prime Minister. Mr. Savage. Mr. Schramm, M.P., was loudly applauded and encouraged by tin audience of more than 150 at the campaign meeting of Mr. P. Carr, Labour candidate in the Auckland West, by-election, held in Newton tonight.
Referring to the presence of a boy at. the front door of the hall, carrying a placard labelled, “Mr. Lee expelled for telling the truth,” .Mr. Schramm said that, no one was expelled from the Labour Party for telling the truth, least of all Mr. Lee. “I will take the platform anywhere in New Zealand to justify, my action in standing by Mr. Savage,” said Mr. Schramm, “I make no apology for tne stan'd I took to protect him and see that truth might be placed before the people. If .Mr. Lee wants to light Grey Lynn again tomorrow, I will go and fignt it: will! him.” (Applause ami cheering). "I would resign my seat: to do it if Jie would resign his. He is not fighting a sick man when he lights me, and I will light: him on the platform anywhere.” , , At. this stage Mr. Schramm s words were drowned in cheering. As it subsided a voice asked: Why don't, you alien'd his meeting tomorrow night and sav these things to his face? “I have said them to his face,” said Mr. Schramm. "I moved the motion at the conference for bis expulsion, and God knows it was the best thing I have ever done in my life.” Speaking of the resignation of the Hon. Mr. Barnard, Mr. Schramm said: “Mr. Imo gave him the idea that he could be the future Prime Minister of New Zealand, and poor old Billy Barnard lielieved him.” Laughter and cheers were intermingled as Mr. Schramm continued demanding Ihe resignation of Mr. Lee and Mr. Barnard from their seats and inviting them to go to the electors.
