WEEKEND HOSPITALITY FOR MEN OF FORCES
In pursuance of the decision of the National Club to offer hospitality during weekends to men of the lighting services the club rooms have been made available to the men and a large number have taken advantage of the opportunity afforded to spend many hours in very comfortable surroundings. All the facilities of the club have been placed at the disposal of soldiers, and women’s committees from the various electorates of the city are on duty to provide hot meals, and afternoon teas. During the last month helpers, under the super vision of Miss M. Maegregor (Wellington North', and Mesdames D. Hall (Wellington South), and H. E. Avery (Wellington East), have made themselves responsible for the efi'ectivifnnel.ioning of this activity undertaken by the National Club.
Opposition to the suggestion that a women’s land army be formed in New Zealand was expressed at a meeting of the Waikato executive of the Farmers' Union. Mr. J. 11. Fnrnit-s said it was ridiculous to urge girls lo work on farms when there were young men in shops doing work women could easily do. When no young men were available consideration could be given to the employment of women. Mrs. J. Courtney said what the Women’s Division of the union really wanted was help in the homes. The division did not consider a women’s land army was necessary.
