OBITUARY

Mrs. L. Cockburn The deatli occurred in Napier Hospital on, Sunday of Mrs. Louisa Cockburn, Meeanee, at the age of 82, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mrs. Cockburn was one of the earliest settlers in the Gisborne district, and went to Hawke’s Bay nearly 30 years ago. Born in London, she came to New Zealand in 1870 in the sailing vessel Westmeath, arriving at Gisborne. There she shared the anxieties of raids by 'Te Kooti ami his followers. Mrs, Cockburn was married 50 years ago, and with her husband they went to Wailiau Patoka, in 1913, mid took up sheep-farming. She was predeeeased by her husband 13 years ago. In her later years she lived in Rissingtori, and more recently in Meeanee. ■She leaves- a family of two sons— Messrs. G. R. Cockburn (Havelock North), and Alex Cockburn (Wailiau Patoka)—and two daughters, Mrs. J. C. Hale (Meeanee) and Mrs. W. L. Archibald (Hastings).
