HIGHWAY PLANTING
Motorists’ Appreciation
Iu appreciation of the Wellington Beautifying Society’s gift to the .Public Works Department of 16,000 trees for planting on the coastal highway south of Paekakariki, the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) decided last night to give the society 50 guineas. The chairman. Mr. E. A. Batt, and others praised the work of tlie society and said that the planting of such highways was chiefly for the -benefit of motorists, other members of the community rarely seeing the places. Mr. Batt said that Mr. R. L. Macalister, who supervises the society’s nursery, had reported that, the “Coronation acorns” had become trees and would be planted along the road between Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay, being unsuitable for planting on the shore.
