Late News BOMBED AND SUNK
British Destroyer GERMAN AIR RAID AT NAMSOS (By Kiidio—Daventrya (Received May 7, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, A lay 7. It has been announced by the Admiralty that H.M.S. Afridi, a destroyer of the 1 ribal class and a sister, ship to the Cossack, was suni< during the embarkation of troops from Namsos. The Admiralty communique states that the Afridi was part of the defence force provided for the convoy of the troops from Namsos against air and submarine attack. During the embarkation a heavy air attack was 'launched by the Germans, but the anti-aircraft baragc was so effective that none of the transports was hit. In the course of this operation the Afridi was struck by bombs. Two enemy aircraft were shot down.
The Afridi was of 1800 tons and had a complement of 200 men.
GERMAN PUSH TO NARVIK?
Northward Movement Seen (Received -May 7, 1.30 turn.) STOCKHOLM, May .6. Travellers arriving at the frontier from Norway report big movements of German troops and aeroplanes northward. Over 100 planes were headed for the north yesterday. The newspaper “Tidningen” states the opinion that the Germans are planning a blitzkieg against Narvik.
