A BUSY MONTH
Protection Society's Report At a recent meeting in 'Wellington of the Society for lhe Protection of Women and Children, presided over by the president, Mrs. B. L. Dalia rd, it was decided to send a message of sympathy to the relatives of the late Lady Chapman, who was a vice-patroness and past president of the society, and an active member for many years. Deep regret was expressed at the loss of Lady Chapman. Miss Daisy Ewart was appointed unanimously to a vacancy on the committee. Mrs. J. Park, the new assis-' tant-secretary, was welcomed by the president and committee. Many parcels of warm clothing have been received, and the committee thanks those who responded to the appeal in last month’s report. Some very difficult cases were reported by the secretary, Mrs. E. Coventry, drink and gambling being given as the cause of great disruption of home life, with' consequent unhappiness and instability among the children concerned. Young girls who caused anxiety by their wilful behaviour and who refused to live at home had been the subject of warnings and advice. Children who spent part of their time with each parent also seemed to develop a complex when the Influence of those parents was contrary to the wellbeing of the child. During the mouth 115 letters were received, 102 were sent out, 76 visits were paid, and 98 visits were received.
