WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Opening Of Season Good form was shown by several teams in the opening matches of the Wellington women’s hockey season, though others had difficulty in .fielding full sides, some defaults resulting. Satisfactory ground conditions were responsible for some fast and interesting games. The senior A match between College Old Girls and Training College resulted in a win for College Old Girls, 13-2. Training College were handicapped by the loss of several players through holidays, but their scratch team put up a good showing. The C.O.G. forward line combined well, each player scoring. Their defence was also good, particularly that of the goalkeeper. N. Spiers proved invaluable to Training College scoring both of tbeir goals. In the senior B, University, also affected by holidays, defaulted to Upper Hutt. Though Y.W.C.A. were first to score, C.O.G. quickly struck form and set a fast pace, winning 7-2 in the senior B match. Results: — Senior A: C.O.G. 13 beat Training College 2; T.O.G. 6 beat Ngati-Poneke 0. Senior B; P.T.O.G. 1, beat T.O.G. 0; C.O.G. 7, beat Y.W.C.A. 2; Varsity defaulted to Upper Hutt. Intermediate: Maranui 1, drew with St. Joseph’s 1; T.O.G. 2, beat Technical College B 1; Petone Technical A v. Petono Technical B, postponed. Junior: T.O.G. 1, beat St. Joseph’s 0; Technical 2, beat P.T.O.G. 1: Hutt Valley defaulted to C.0.G.; Upper Hutt won by default from Y.W.C.A.
