Scottish Club’s Novice Race

Club runs were held by Wellington bar* rier clubs in showery weather on baturtt dav afternoon. Scottish Club.—The annual nonce rac® was held over a two miles and n half course from the Miramar tennis courts. Sixteen runners started and a good paca was set by the limit man, oft 'nsec. J. Templeton (COsee.) took the lead at the motor camp, and was not headed till -L. Grav (55sec.) and C. naliday'(3ssec.) came through and passed him on the road oyer the last. mile. The backmarkers, It. bin-.. Clair (lOsec.), Simpson (osec.), and K« Earl (scr.). were coining through fasnt at this stage, but were unable to gam places.’ The result was:—L. An invitation run will be held from Johnsouvllle next Saturday, the train leaving at 2 p.m. , , t Presbyterian Club.—The annual handicap novice race was held Lrom the Miramar tennis courts. The course, approximately three miles, was very similar to last years, comprising road and hill work. Ina . scratch man, S. Hay, ran a fine race, but was unable to catch J. Crawford, who finished 250yds. ahead. The rest were closely bunched behind -the first few runners. The race resulted: J; Crawford, 1; S. Hay, G Cowie, 3- W. McElwain, 4; R. luebolls,- £»•’ J Reid, 0: 11. Hawker, 7; A. William. ( son 8: F- Norton, 9; A. Turnc-r, 10. Fast., est'times were: S. Hay. 18.0 S: F. Norton. 19 23' A. Williamson, 19.48: B. Leighton, 19.59.’ The run next week will be from Eastbourne. Runners will catch the 2 p.m. University dub. —In an invitation run; from the Island Bay bathing sheds MeDowall ran well in his first outing with the fast puck, and prominent in the slow pack were Holmes, Wilkinson and Whiteman. After the run the club members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Shorland. Brooklyn Club.—'Some 3a members were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Kainui Road, Hataitai, from whose residence they ran. Junior, medium, and fast packs competed In a seven-mile course up Roseneath to Mount Victoria and on to the zoo, returning via Kilbirnie and Hataitai. -I be excellent form displayed by all members was a’matter of comment, since the run consisted of much hill and cross-country work.
