ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE MAIL ALLEGED
(Received May 5, 7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 5. United States Line officials revealed that after raids on the liner Washington a section of the crew was placed under surveillance. It is alleged that the ship was a hotbed of Nazi sympathizers, who hold nightly Bund meetings and have been attempting to smuggle mail to Germany.
