PULPIT REFERENCES
References were made in the pulpits (! f Wellington city and suburban churches yesterday to the place andl influence of the Bible in education, lhe subject was viewed from many angles by the representatives of various denominations, but all extolled the -influence of the Bible on the life of a nation. One preacher quoted these words of the South African Minister of Education, as applicable to the object in view:— . . „ “There is nothing I desire more fervently for this country than a return to its religious 'taadiitions. By this I do not mean an outward observance of religious ceremony .... I mean an inner piety which does not find expression in outward show, an essential attribute of religion as the service of God,'who is the Father of the whole of humanity, something bigger and finer than language, nation, and country. It is only such a religion which can solve the strife and. dissension which exists in the world today, and ran save civilization from certain disaster.”
