FEWER SHIPS NEEDED IN NORTH SEA
Allied Fleet Going To Alexandria
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 2. Mr. Chamberlain’s speech in the House of Commons included the announcement that a British and French fleet was on the way to Alexandria. Referring to the entire change in the balance of naval power consequent upon the injury done to the German navy in the Norwegian campaign, Mr. Chamberlain said: “In this connexion I might mention that it has been thought possible to revert to a more normal distribution of ships in the Mediterranean which has for some time been affected by our requirements in the North Sea. A British and French fleet, with cruisers and auxiliary craft, is already in the eastern basin of the Mediterranean on its way to Alexandria.”
