Cases In Magistrates’ Court Twelve months’ jail with hard labour was the sentence imposed by Mr. Stout, S;M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, after Gordon Alexander Anderson, labourer, aged 23. had pleaded guilty to tire theft of clothing and other goods valued at £lB/7/6, the property of Desmond R. Kennelily. The offence was committed in Wellington on February 28 last. Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan, who prosecuted, said accused stole the property from Kennelly s room, and sold some of it in the South Island. It hart not been recovered. Anderson bad a bad list, and was sentenced 1 in Nelson recently to six months’ jail on another theft charge. The new sentence is to be served' at the expiration of the present term. Arrested on Thursday by Detective W. J. Hedley, George Henry Smith, labourer, aged 58, was lemanded to appear in Web lington again on May 8. He was charged with breaking and entering, on February 28, the dwelling of W. du Bois Ferguson. Paekakariki, and committing theft, and also faced a similar charge, concerning the dwelling of Arthur Bradley Pownall, Packaik'ariki. After pleading not guilty to a charge of assaulting his wile. Amy Louisa* Hislop, in the early hours of yesterday morning. William Robertson Hislop, labourer, aged 2<l, was senteimed to a month in jail. Accused ailnnitted, when eross-examinediby Sub-Inspector E. T. C. Turner, that he had served a month for a similar offence last November. A fine of £2 was imposed on Russell Alexander David Bkickiburn, labourer, aged IS, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Frederick Leith Hopkins.
