AVE have a dear lii.lle foal about two ’ inoi]ths old. When dad takes the mother horse out to work, 1 go to the fence itnd put my band over, and the foal comes and nibbles at my fingers. One day we had the haymakers, and one of the men tried to put a rope round the foal’s neck, but the foal got away by pulling back on the rope and getting' the rope off his neck! We also have a little Shetland pony, which we ride round the paddocks when we bring in the cows at milking time. — Turnip Pahiatua. Flood At Mataroa, About a month ago we had a bad storm, which started by raining without a stop all weekend. Mummy and Daddy had both gone into town. They were very lucky in getting home, as they just came down the Mataroa hill before a slip came down on the road Then, when they arrived here, the waler was touching our bridge, which was usually 15 feet from the water.
