Clothes Wear Out Quickly In Films
I N Hollywood, where the average dress is doomed when donned by a star, hard use limits the life of most motion picture gowns to a week, at best. Each gb'yii gets hard use in tests, rehearsals and “takes.” Every wrinkle in a dress means a wrinkle on the cameraman’s brow, so constant ironing is a pressing problem. Every spot puts the wardrobe girls on the spot, and continual cleaning means more wear and tear.
Of the 44 outfits worn by Deanna Durbin and Kay Francis in “It’s a Date.” possibly 10 will survive the long shooting schedule. Some of the gowns may be purchased by the stars. Mai terial from others may be used in other gowns for other pictures. Occasionally some materials, particularly expensive furs, may be rented for a film and are returned.
