WAIKINO TRAGEDY
Accused Remanded To Auckland (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAHI I, May 2. Douglas Herbert Cartman, aged 22, single, employed as a trucker in (lie Martha gold mine, appeared before Messrs. W. Al. Walnutt and J. -Moorhead, J.P.’s, in the Wailii Court today charged with the murder at Waikino on April 2 of Alice Elizabeth Hamilton, a married woman, aged 26. whose body was found in scrub on the side of the Waikino-Waltawhcta road, three miles away from the place where the body of Lloyd Moran, aged 15, son of the proprietor of tlie Waikino Hotel, Mr. J. J. Moran, was found some hours earlier. Young Moran and Mrs. Hamilton, who was a cook employed at the hotel, had gone for a stroll the evening before. A remand for tlie accused to appear in Auckland next. Monday was sought by Detective-Sergeant Thompson. A further remand will be asked for then, said Detecctive-Sergeant Thompson. The remand was granted.
