FESTIVAL TO BE HELD AS USUAL

Wellington Competitions Society The annual festival of the Wellington Competitions Society will be held this year as usual. The executive council of the society states that it has reached this decision after careful eonsideralion. The competitions will be held from Saturday. August 17. to Saturday. August 31. The syllabus, which will be issued this month, will contain the usual classes.

Adjudicators have been appointed for the festival as follows: — Vocal and instrumental: Dr. Fredric Staton, of the Royal Schools of Music. London. Dr. Staton has adjudicated for festivals throughout the world.

Associate vocal and instrumental: Mr. Eric Moss. Grcymoutli. Mr. Moss

was one of the judges at the 1939 festival. Elocution: Mr. Barton Ginger, Wellington. Mr. Ginger has adjudicated at festivals at most of the other centres in Now Zealand. Fancy dancing: Miss Bettina Edwards, Auckland. Miss Edwards has also had wide experience in festival work. Many valuable cups have been given Io the society for the festival. Members of the 'Wellington .Symphony Orchestra have given two cups, to lie known as the Madame Evelyn de Manny Cups, for vocal and instrumental classes. Mr. Moss has presented two cups for the instrumental'section. From the estate of the late Mr. Joseph Knowsley there has been given a challenge cup for the ballet dancing sections, and from the 'Wellington branch of the Australian .Society of Dancing are two scholarships and cups for special dancing sections. The secretary, Mr. S. G. Cresswell, states that, a great deal of interest is being displayed already in the festival.
