A smart half-mile by Glenbevan and useful efforts over sprint distances by Foxsen, Acremau, Flashing Spear, Gasacre, Acute, (Sunny Dowus and Calorie were features of this morning's work at Te Rapa, when the No. 1 Grass provided splendid going. Susan and Torch (Watson) were associated over a round and finished practically on term# in 1.58 1-5. Foxseu (Brown) and Acreman (Gollop) jumped off at the five furlong peg and there was little between the pair at the completion of the effort in 1.2 4-5. Both are making good progress. Olympus (Hall) and Mayfair (Ramsay) were associated over five furlongs, being timed to run their final half-mile in 50. Reducing Expenditure. -After tlie couiniencement ot the war many English and French breeders economized greatly in their expendituie. The Aga Khan was one. particularly so in connexion with' his breeding opeiations in France. In that eo-uutry lie had live different studs. Of these he closed down three, and of his G 4 mares he destroyed six, sold 27 to go to Hungary for about £BOOO, mid eight to India and live to French breeders. Of his live stallions in France, he sold three. Of course he han to dismiss a large humiber or employees on short notice, mid this is said to have caused some antagonistic feeling, as lor some years the Aga Khan had done better in the way of sales in France than any other breeder
