BROKEN HILL PPTY.

Taxation Of New Share Issue

STOCK EXCHANGE ACTION The Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand advises shareholders of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd., that, following the recent announcement of the Commissioner' of 'Taxes that the recent new issue of shares in this company was to be included in returns for income tax and Social Security tax purposes, representations were made to the Deputy Commissioner of Tuxes aud, later, to the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, on the ground that shareholders had received nothing additional from the company, either as dividend or as capital. It is learned that early consideration is being given to these representations and a reply in the near future is expected. In the meantime shareholders are advised to show the number of new shares received by them, either in the forms used in making their returns or by separate letter.
