PROGRESS OF THE WAR
Novel Description To Mental Patients
Dominion Special Service.
AUCKLAND, May 1
By means of a special projector known as an epidiascope and neatlyconstructed models, the progress of the war iiT'Europe is being graphically presented to Hie patients of the Kingseat Mental Hospital, Papakura. by the ollieial visitor, the b’ev. Jasper Calder. Commencing a series of lectures last night, Mr. Calder gave a visual impression of tiie battle ot Narvik Hord, which was fully appreciated by lhe audience to which I lie ordinary accounts of the engagement mighl bi? incomprehensible.
The epidiascope enables pieiui'es, letterpress and even small models constructed in relief to be enlarged to a size of about 10ft. by 12ft. and projected in colour on to a screen. In addition to showing vivid pictures of aircraft, troops and ships, Mr. Calder constructed topographical models ot the now famous fiord in which the snow-capped hills, tiie coves and inlets and oilier characteristics were faithfully reproduced. In tiie fiord were the British and enemy ships, tlieir disposition being changed from time to time as the battle proceeded. Even the coastal battery destroyed by 11.M.5. Cossack was to be seen. The story as told by the models, the
pictures and Mr. Calder's simple explanations was eagerly followed bv the patients. There was also a 2ft model of tiie veteran H.M.S. Warspite for the audience to examine.
