Vice-Regal. At Government House yesterday morning, his Excellency the GovernorGeneral received the newly-appointed Consul-General for Japan, Mr, Toyokichi Fukuma. Representatives of the Australian Returned Soldiers’ Association, who are visiting New Zealand, were the guests of their Excellencies at luncheon at Government House yesterday. Ministerial. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, returned to Wellington from Auckland by aeroplane yesterday. Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, returned to Wellington by air from Auckland yesterday. < Sir Louis Barnett, Otago district surgeon of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, has been appointed surgeon-in-chief for the Dominion in succession to Dr. C. D. Henry, who has resigned because of ill-health and has been transferred to the reserve. Mr. W. IL Price returned to Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Lieutenant-Colonel R. Harding arrived at Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Mr. F. Maurice Clarke has been appointed general manager of Union Airways of New Zealand, Ltd. Colonel G. J. Smith arrived at Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Mr. F. W. J. Belton, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Mr. F. Langbein, main highways engineer, arrived at Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Captain W. Pollard, Otago district artillery officer, arrived at Wellington by the steamer express yesterday.
Mr. J. N. Greenland has been appointed to a seat on the board of directors of Union Airways of New Zealand, Ltd. Mr. D. 1. Macdonald, secretary of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. L. S. W. McKenzie was reelected chairman of the Wellington Colleges Board of Governors at yesterday’s meeting of the board. There was one other nomination, that of Mr. W. H. Denton.
-Mr. R. H. Clark, who has been with the Wheat Purchase Board and the Wheat Committee for the last seven years, has been appointed secretaryaccountant to the Co-operative Dairy Company of Otago, Ltd., Dunedin. He will leave for the south today and will take up his new duties on May 6. Mr. A. I. Murray, apprentice instruction officer for the New Zealand Railways at Wellington, has been transferred to Dunedin as technical costing officer at the Hillside railway workshops. Mr. Murray will be missed in golfing circles, as he has been, captain of the Paekakariki Golf Club for several years. He will leave for Dunedin in about a fortnight.
