LATE MR. SAVAGE
Selection Of Design For Memorial COMMITTEE APPOINTED The appointment by the Government of a committee to advise on the area to be set aside at Bastion Point, Auckland, as a special reserve for the memorial to be erected to the late Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, was announced yesterday. The committee, which is to consist of Mr. J. T. Mair, A.R.1.8.A., Government Architect, and Mr. J. W. Mawson, F.R.1.8.A., Government Town Planner, will be asked to take steps to secure an appropriate design for the proposed memorial, for which, it is probable, a public competition, open to all sections of the community, will be held.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, stated yesterday that arrangements had been made for the committee to visit Auckland next week to inspect the site and to put: in hand the necessary topographical surveys.
