FORESTRY COMPANY AT EXHIBITION

Troops Attired In Battle Dress INSPECTION BY MINISTER OF SUPPLY One hundred and fifty officers and men of the newly formed forestry company visited tbe Exhibition yesterday. They were inspected by the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan. The company, which was under the command of Captain Elliott, was the first unit to make a public appearance in Wellington in battle dress. . After inspecting the troops tbe Minister, who apologized for the absence .of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, tbe Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, and tbe Commissioner of State Forests, Air. Langstone, addressed them and congratulated them upon their smart and businesslike appearance in their new uniforms. Mr. Sullivan said that as Allnister ot Supply he was particularly interested in this equipment, as it had fallen to his lot to arrange for the manufacture and supply of these uniforms. The production of the battle dress, which is an entirely new type, had presented some difficulties and problems, and the Minister paid a tribute to manufacturers, and the workers in the clothing factories, for the helpful spirit in which they had co-operated in having the uniforms produced to schedule. The men who had enlisted from tbe bush and timber workers of New Zealand for service in the special company were a particularly fine type, and the Minister paid a tribute to their fine physique, soldierly appearance and smartness on parade. The war in which the Empire was engaged would demand sacrifices by all sections of the community whether they were soldiers or civilians, and he was satisfied that the contribution which the forestry company would make would be of the greatest possible assistance to the New Zealand war effort. On behalf of the Government he wished them well in the task upon which they would be engaged, and stated that the promise made by the Prime Minister that they would be looked after on their return to New Zealand would be redeemed to the letter.
