Though explanations have been published regarding the coloured patches soldiers arc now wearing on their arms, indicating the units to which they belong, many civilians were obviously puzzled by them during the weekend. Speculation was rife as to their meaning. One man from Papakura camp, waiting for a tram in Auckland, beard a pair of youngsters standing liehind him discussing the meaning of the patches. After some weighty discussion the verdiet was given: "He must be a sergeant-major.”
