NAVAL APPOINTMENT

New Commander-in-Chief Of China Station LONDON, April 28. Vice-Admiral Geoffrey Layton has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the China Station. Vice-Admiral Layton has bees ViceAdmirr.i Commanding the First Battle Squadron and Seeond-in-Cominand of the Mediterranean Fleet since last year. He was promoted tn commander in 1916, captain in 1922, and RearAdmiral in 1935. He was in the Renown from 1933-34; commodore of the Royal Naval Barracks at Portsmouth from 1934 to 1936; Director of Personal Services', 1936-38; and commander of the Battle Cruiser Squadron in 1938.
