German Attempt To Cut Railway

ALLIES REINFORCED IN NORWAY Three Nazi Supply Ships Torpedoed

LONDON, April 29. German forces advancing up the Osterdal Valley, which were reported to have been diverted in the direction of the DombasStoren railway, with the apparent intention of cutting it, have reached a point 20 miles north-east of Dombas and have been engaged by Allied troops. Sharp fighting is in progress. Further Allied troops have been landed at Andalsnes and Namsos, all the German attempts to stop them having been repelled. The Allied positions in the Gudbrandsdal Valley are reported to have been considerably strengthened to meet the unexpectedly rapid advance of the Germans in this locality. The British Navy is still hampering the German attempts to supply their forces. The Admiralty announces that three more German supply ships have been torpedoed and sunk on their way to Norway. British losses have been slight, consisting of two trawlers. One was bombed and was sunk and the other was set on fire by incendiary bombs. There were no casualties. The Germans claim to have sunk five cruisers and 13 transports in the past two days. The Admiralty states that there is not the slightest truth in these claims and that the enemy’s attacks have achieved only slight success. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON. April 28. The War Office announces :— “A further enemy attack against our positions in the Gudbraiidsdal Valley has been repulsed. Further disembarkation of troops was successfully carried out despite enemy air action against Andalsnes and our lines of communication. “There has been slight enemy air activity in the Narvik area. This has not interfered with the Allied operations. “There is no further news from the Namsos area.”
