EASTER WEIGHTS

Beaupartir Given Good Chance NOTES AND COMMENTS Another Blandford Horse Coining (By The Watches,) Beaupartir reads well at 8.8 in the Auckland Easter Handicap. This is the weight Mr. Coyle gave Peerless over 10 furlongs last Saturday, and she successfully conceded Gay Son 21b. Beaupartir is msked to give Gay Son only one more pound at Auckland. Taurangi won the Thompson Handicap with 8.4. Will Not Run.

Though Hungarian has been weighted for the Auckland Easter Handicap, he will not be a runner, as he has been blistered and turned out.

A Prospect. At 7.10 in the Auckland Easter Handicap, Laughing Lass is up 51b. front the weight she carried when narrowly beaten in the Thompson Handicap, She should go well if taken north.

Scratched For Auckland. A Press Association message from Auckland states that Smoke Screen, Russian Ballet, and Ruatiti were scratched at 0 a.m. yesterday for all engagements at tho Auckland Racing Club’s meeting. Smoke Screen has gone sore, and has been turned out for the remainder of the seasou,

Wilson's Penalty. The suspension imposed ou C. T. Wilson at Oamaru on Saturday was for oue month on a charge of crossing.

Weight Corrections. There are several errors in the telegraphed list of weights for the Auckland Easter meeting. In the President's Handicap Galilee and Te Hai each have 8.1, not 7.9. In the Brighton Hurdles Electric Spear has 10.11, not 10. G. and Full of Scotch and Riotous each have 10.8, not 10.0, and Mio Lume has 9.9, not 9.4, In the Easter Handicap, Gay Son has 8.5, not 8.0. Royevrus 7.6, not 7.3, and Gold Vaals 7.1, not 7.0. In the Mangere Steeplechase, Wasp has 9.8, not 9.5. In the Onslow Stakes the following are the correct weights:—Brazen Bold 8.13, nlo 9,13: Tellson, Surmise, and Stonehaven, each 7.7. not 7.6; Hunto and the Vaals filly each 7.5. not 7.3: and Gay Movie, Glen Connell, ami Wyndora each 7.4, not 7.3. In the Eden Handicap, Dauber and Bonstar each have 8.3, not 8.2. Toro-Koura's Fast Gallop.

Toro-Koura is credited with running six furlongs after the racing on the first day at Oamaru in 1.11 2-5 from a moving ■start. He was suffering from shoulder lameness after the gallop and lienee was uol produced ou the second day. A Derby Hope.

The following is the opinion of trainer F. Musgrove on the New Zealand-bred colt Wilson (by Siegfried):—“He may not beat High Caste over the short two-year-old races, but I expect hirn to develop into a Derby colt,” he .added. Pythia.

Pythia, a Dominion-bred brood mare now in Victoria and the dam of Thrasos, was sold at the Melbourne sales a fortnight ago for 775gn5., which is the highest price paid for a brood mare in Melbourne for many years. Pythia, who was a winner in New Zealand, . is by Psychology out of the Boniforni mare Flora MacDonald, dam also of that good performer Royal Mac. She had a colt foal by Manitoba at foot, and the purchase w-as made by the Flemington trainer E. Fisher on behalf of Mr, T. C. Manifold. Mrs. F. Nathan, New Zealand, who offered Pythia, also offered the colt Crojick, who won the St. Mongo Handicap at Moouee Valley at his first start. Mrs. Nathan refused 2500gns. for Crojick six months ago. and he was passed in at llOOgns. Top Flier, dam of Crojick, was knocked down to E. Fisher for 250 gns. It is understood that Top Flier was also bought on behalf of Mr. Manifold.

A Pleasing Performance. Dr. Nigel Smith, Sydney, was present at Oamaru to see his filly, Crack o’ Dawn, get among the winners at the meeting, and the win will enhance the pleasure of his holiday in New Zealand. Crack o’ Dawn won with a fast finishing run, and may train on to win in better company. She is a chestnut filly by Night Raid from Rawene, by Winkie —Jeanerette, by Kilbroney. Phar Lap was a chestnut got by Night Raid from a Winkie mare, and Crack o’ Dawn may prove valuable for the paddock at the end of her racing career.

Another Blandford Horse For N.Z. New Zealand breeders have already imported four sons of Blandford, the sire of four Derby winners. Still another is to be brought here, in Ninth Duke, who has just been bought in England by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., for the Waikato breeders, Messrs. Malcolm Bros., Te Rapa, who already have at their stud, Hazrat, by Craig an Eran from Duxford, a half-sister to The Night Patrol. Ninth Duke raced successfully both in Prance and in England, and is described as a splendid type of thoroughbred. He is bred on attractive lines’, somewhat similarly in fact to the great Italian horse, Donatello 11. who is now standing at the stud in England at a fee of -ICO guineas. Donatello II is by Blenheim. son of Blandford, and his dam is a great grand-daughter of Pretty Poily. Donatello II was unbeaten both as a twoand three-year-old in Italy, and it was because of his exceptional merit as a racehorse and of his purely English, pedigree that he was bought, for £45,000 for stud purposes in England. The similarity in the breeding of the two horses is shown by the fact that Ninth Duke is by Blandford, and his dam, Goddess of Mirth, is a grand-daughter of Miranda, an own sister to Pretty Polly. Though Ninth Duke is the fifth son of the great Blandford to come to the Dominion, there should certainly be an opening for him here when he has such excellent breeding on his dam’s side as well to recommend him. Ninth Duke is being shipped from England next month along with Lang Biau, who has been secured for Mr. Prank Ormond’s Karamu Stud, where he will join the successful son of Blandford already standing there, Bulands'har.
