A BUSY YEAR
Huddart Parker Limited COAL TRADE DIFFICULTY Tn spite of the low price of export products, and the unsettled feeling in financial circles, the company's earnings had been satisfactory, stated the chairman of Huddart, Parker, Limited, Mr. J. L. Webb, at the annual meeting of the company in Melbourne last week. • He added that the company had experienced a busy and profitable year, which had been marred only by a .short interruption to trading when the coal miners had gone on strike for six weeks. ‘'Although the prices obtainable lor coal have improved." Mr. Webb continued, “the colliery companies, Hebburn. Limited. and the Metropolitan Coal Company, in which we are interested, wtill have heavy liabilities to liquidate, and require further extensive capital outlay for improved plant. Therefore, while the outlook is more hopeful, it will be some time before any dividends can be expected from Him source. "Australian National Airways Proprietary, Limited, in which we hold a substantial interest, after two and a half years'' operations, has not yet been able to pay any return on its capital. Otherwise, from most of our investments, we have had satisfactory returns.'’
