Year’s Loss Of £20.981
The accounts of Selfridges (Aus'ralasia). Limited, disclose a loss of £20.981 for the year ended January 31. The directors claim that the second half of the year showed a profit of £2884. In the year ended .January, 1938. ;h<> company incurred a lows of £21.373, compared with a net profit of £14,187 in the previous year. In June last, following a move among a group of shareholders, ,-t committee was appointed to investigate matters relating to t.he mlminisl rat imi of the company. In addition to making certain recommendations, the committee reported that it could see little prospect of a profit for the current, year, but considered that with careful management the company should be on a protit-earning basiis within two years. The board of directors was asked to resign, and only two of the original members were elected to the new board, which has had control since August last. Gold Mining Returns The Argo dredge reports a return of 49 ounces from 11.000 cubic yards worked in 12(1 hours. The New Hirer dredge reports that owing to the dry weather the waler in the dredge paddock fell too low to permit dredging.
