LYONS’S SUGGESTION TURNED DOWN
Australian Opposition Not To Join Cabinet SYDNEY, March 25. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. J. Curtin, indicating that the Opposition would not join a National Cabinet, as proposed by Mr. Lyons, said today that the Prime Minister was “flying a kite to save his Prime Ministership.” Speaking at Devonport, Mr. Lyons said that in view of the refusal of the Leader of the Opposition it was useless to proceed with the proposal for a National Cabinet.
Willingness to co-operate in the formation of a National Cabinet of all parties because of the need for cooperation in Australia was expressed by Mr. Lyons in Melbourne. * Mr. Lyons appealed for the full and active co-operation of all parties in the cause of unity against a common danger. He said he did not propose to issue a personal invitation to the Labour Party to form a National Government beyond indicating his willingness to have their co-operation.
