WEATHER SITUATION
Southerlies Prevailing
Following is the weather report aud the forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today :— Gent'ral situation; Pressure is tailing slowly over New Zealand, but is still high over south-eastern Australia. A deep depression is located over the north Tasman Sea. "Winds: Rather variable at first, but southerlies or gradually prevailing; moderate mainly, but strong in the far south and. rising in the north. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising north of East Cape and later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-westerly winds at first in the southern portion, but. otherwise south to east prevailing; moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in parts of the northern portion; seas rough. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER
Wellington: Overcast in the morning, but clear and sunny by the afternoon. Temperature warm; a light breeze from the north. Maximum temperature, 70deg.; minimum temperature, Sunday night, 56.5 deg. At 3.30 p.m. the temperature was 68deg, and the barometer reading 29.923 in. Palmerston North: Fine, sunny and warm, with a light south-east breeze. Wanganui: Blue sky and a light air. Sea slight, The barometer at 4.30 p.m. was 30.00 in. Masterton: Dot sunshine and a faint westerly breeze. Napier and Hastings: Flue and warm with occasional low cloud; light eastearly breeze. Waipulviiprau: A perfect day with brilliant sunshine and a maximum temperature of 77deg. The barometer dropped slightly to 30.001 U. New Plymouth: A perfect, sunny day with a light breeze iu the morning anil evening. Temperatures cooler. The barometer had a falling tendency, the 5 p.m. reading being 29.85 in. Auckland: Conditions during the day were cloudy, becoming threatening in the late afternoon. The wind was light from the north and the maximum temperature was 72deg. The barometric pressure had a falling tendency, with the reading at. 5 p.m. 29.99 in. Christchurch: Fine and sunny with light, to moderate easterly winds, the maximum temperature being 65.7 deg. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.850 in. and was falling fast.
Dunedin: The sky was overcast early in Hie morning and temperatures were cool, but. the sun shone strongly later and the thermometer gave a maximum reading of 66deg. There was practically up wind. The barometer fell steadily during lite morning, but was rising later at 29.90 in.
