Increase In Registered Players Expected
Delegates from the Auckland, Wanganui, Wairarapa,. Canterbury and Wellington Basehall Associations met iu conference in Wellington on Sunday morning. Several points dealing with interpretations of the laws of baseball were dealt with, and delegates stated that in their districts the number of registered players would be doubled next year. Inquiries were being made daily aw to where the necessary gear could be purchased, (hey said. Though the bad weather marred the financial part of the tourney played on Saturday, it was agreed that the fixture had done much to help ’ the game, and Canterbury was congratulated on winning the Beatty Shield. From now on the shield will -be competed for on a challenge basis, and regulations regarding challenges will be drawn up for the consideration of delegates, at the annual general meeting, which will be held not later than Labour Day this year. During the afternoon the visiting delegates were shown over the Ford plant in Lower Hutt, and a match between Auckland and Wellington was played on Hutt Park. An ex-citing game, which was watched with interest by a large number of spectators, resulted in a win for ’Wellington, the final score being ■Wellington 4, Auckland 1.
