CHILLED BEEF TRADE
“Even Greater Future Than Fat Lamb Trade” Dominion Special ServkiAn opinion that the chilled beef trade had an even greater future than the fat lamb trade was expressed by Mr. S. S. Tiiubs. Wanganui, iu an address at the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s autumn show on Saturday. Mr. Tiinbs judged the chilled beef classes at the show. British butchers were against the principle of quotas, said Mr. Tiiubs. They desired a free market mid large supplies so that they might sell meat at a reasonable price. He thought there should be half a dozen different breeds for Hie raising of chilled beef on different types of country.

Railway Deviation. Approximately GO men are at present working on the Palmerston North railway deviation, the majority of them on the preparation of tlie site for the goods yards near Rangitikei Line. Because of delay in tin- delivery of the heavy rails it will probably be several weeks before the laying of tile track i-mi proceed on the eastern side of Rangitikei Line.

Impressive Band Display. '['he display given by tlie Wanganui Highland Pipe Band at the autumn show of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society nt Tomouna on Saturday was one of the most impressive seen on the ground for many years and drew continued applause I’rom the spectators, who crowded the grandstand mid the fence right round the oval. The exhibition of figure inarching gave evidence of long training and provided . a very colourful spectacle.
