CHEESE SLOW AND UNCHANGED
A decline of 2/- a ewl. last week, brought the l.midmi price of New Zealand butter down to 116/- a cwt., compared with I I 1/- a year ago. The present price is 8/3 a cwt. below the Londou equivalent of the guaranteed price. The market is quiet.
Friday's closing quotations for butler, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows. New Zealand, sailed, 116/- (118/-; a year ago, 111/-) ; iiasalted, 120/- to 122/(122/-; a year ago, 119/- to 1-0/-). Australian, sailed, J>l/- .t° ’JV* (117/-) ; unsalted, IL>/- to Jl6/- (118/-). Argentine, unsalted, 109/- to 111/- (not. quoted). , Dauish, 114/- Ln.b.; 100/- to 13b/snot (114/-; 135/- to 136/-). Dutch, uncalled. 114/-, ex. 117/- (114/Polish, salted, 113/- (115/-) ; unsalted, South Africa, 109/- to 112/- (113/- to 115/-). , . ..„ Retail prices are unchanged, New Zealand at 1/3 to 1/2 a lb., aud Danisti at /'The present price of 116/- is equal to approximately 13.83 d. a lb., f.0.b., New Zi’alay.l ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d. a lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is .124/3 a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 6.7 d. a lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 5.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week totalled 1672 tons. The quantity in store on Friday, including 658 tons ex Rimutaka, Waipawa a_nd Tainui, was 5618 tons, as against 5134 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 1876 tons, tjie quantity in store being 4567 tons, as against 3643 tons a year ago. The market for cheese is quiet, New Zealand white and coloured being unchanged at 60/- a cwt., as against 68/6 to 69/6 a year ago. Friday's closing prices, with those of the previous week iu parentheses, were as follows:— New Zealand: White and coloured, 60/- (60/-; a year ago 68/6 to 69/6/ Australian: White, 53/- to 56/- (54/to 57/-) ; coloured, 54/- to 58/- (56/- to 58/-). Canadian: White, 71/ -to 74/- (72/to 73/-) ; coloured, 72/- to 73/-, ex. 74/(73/-) ; old season's coloured, 82/- (82/-). English; Finest farmers, 86/- to 96/(86/- to 96/-) : factory eheese, 63/- to 64/- (62/-). South African; White, 57/- to 58/(not quoted). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 15,510 crates, the quantity in store on Friday being 93,791 crates, as against 59,615 crates a year ago.
Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 93,600 boxes, compared with 76.515 boxes a year ago. Cheese gradings iu New Zealand for the week ended March 18 were 18,633 crates of white and 10,317 crates of coloured, a total of 28,950 crates.
