To the accompaniment of a roaring engine and a series of crashes, a ear careered madly about Market Street. Ilasiiugs, about nine o'clock last night, hilling parked vehicles and finishing broadside across the road. The driver, Donald McLeod, a inidde-aged resident of Havelock North, received bead injuries, and was removed Io hospital. 11 is believed that when Mr. McLeod started the engine of the ear the accelerator jammed, anil in an attempt lo free it he lost control. The car siiddenly shot forward, veered across Ihe road, with engine racing, struck a culvert and collided violently with a parked car. Continuing its wild dash, it cannoned off, crossed the road, ami (struck a second vehicle, parked opposite. which it pushed for 30 feet before skidding round and coming to rest broadside across the street. Extensive damage was done all three vehicles involved.
