NEW STRATOPLANES FOR BRITAIN
Pressure Cabins: Speed Of 275 m.p.h. (British Official Wtrelesn.) (Received March 26. 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 25. Additional derails of the Fairey scratoplanes for flying at greater heights than is at present, practicable with passengers are announced. Fourteen of these airliners have been ordered by the Air Ministry. They will embody pressure cabins of a more advanced kind than those of any airliner at present in service or beyond the experimental stage. In the cabins the normal ground level atmospheric pressure will be maintained up to a height of 15,000 feet. Accommodation will be provided for 30 passengers. This type of airliner is designed to attain a maximum speed of 275 miles an hour and has four engines, each of 1000 horsepower. The three “Golden Hind” class ocean tlyiug-boats which are being built at Rochester for Imperial Airways are likely to be launched in April, May and June respectively. The loaded weight is 72;0001b.. the length of the hull 101 feet, the span of the high wing 134 feet, and tbit estimated top speed 205 miles an hour.
