SHORTAGE OF GROUNDS

Wellington Hockey Association "To obtain suitable grounds Tor hockey becomes increasingly difficult, and it is possible that in the coming season the association will have more teams on the Held and fewer grounds available than last year." says the executive of the Wellington Hockey Association, in its 40th annual report. Other codes are faced witii the same shortage of grounds, it adds. The committee endeavours to arrange games so as to save teams as much lravelling as possible, but occasions do arise where travelling to more distant grounds cannot be avoided. "The programme of representative games was not as great as in the previous season, the report adds. Several games had to be cancelled because of injuries, sickness, and visiting players being unable to obtain sufficient leave. Both jfanawatu and Otago intended to send teams to Wellington, but at the last minute were nimble to do so. "Continued enthusiasm was shown by primary school boys in their games, and the sticks donated by the association have ■lone a great deal to stimulate interest. "Keenness was shown by the two s-’ceondary schools, Wellington College, mid Technical College, in the competition games, and it is expected that other secondary schools will join the association."
