The surprise at the Rosehill meeting today was the defeat of Ajax in the Rawson Stakes by Spear Chief, whose victory was most popular. Few bookmakers operated on the race, Ajax being regarded as such a certainty. Heavy showers fell during the meeting. After the second race Defaulter ran a mile.
