Star Holds Britannia Fours OLD MEMBERS’ DAY AT PETONE The Star Boating Club held it>s Britannia fours competition on Saturday afternoon, five crews taking part. The water was good and most of the finishes were extremely close. Results were as follows: — First Heat. J. Thodey, J. Gilbertson, H. Gray, B. Veitch •• ••• • • ••• 1 K. Frazer, B. Burge, P. Taylor, N. Dyson • * Won by two lengths. Second Heat. W. Hawker, J. Peters, A. Lowe, L. Waller ••••• N 1 F. Spademan, P. Webb, TV. Young, G. Jones “ Won by two lengths. Bye: C. Pert, J. Cowles, J. Ashby, G. Turner. „ , Semifinal. Pert's crew J Thodey’s crew - Won by a foot. Final. Pert’s crew 1 Hawker’s crew - Won by three feet. Junior Singles. In the final of the junior single sculls competition, J. Ashby beat J. Clouston by two lengths. McLean-Bethune Fours. The final of the McLean-Bethune four* was also rowed, T. Ryan, F. Bannister, B. Veitch and B. Murphy winning by four lengths from E. MacPherson, J. Gilbertson, L. Laurenson and S. Simon. PETONE CLUB Old Members’ Day The unfavourable weather at Petooe on Saturday afternoon prevented any boats taking the water, and old members day had to be celebrated as a purely social gathering. The president of. the club, Mr. C. H. Burridge, in welcoming the old members, said that old members* day was looked forward to all the season by present as well as past members. He apologized for the unavoidable absence of the mayor of Petone, Mr. G. London, and the M.P. for the district, Mr. Nash, and said that Mr. A. G. Saunders, foundation president of the club, would be present later in the afternoon.

Mr. Burridge mentioned that the club contemplated buying five new boats in the near future and invited the gathering to inspect Lite plant. The club captain, Mr. T. Watson, expressed disappointment that the weather had prevented the married v. single men’s race and the old members’ fours from being rowed. He said that the club was particularly indebted to its old member.’ for their enthusiasm and it was pleasing to see such a satisfactory muster.
